You have probably heard of upturned eyes or you know someone who has them. Most people would consider them exotic, but there are those who feel self-conscious about having cat-eyes as they are commonly known.

In this article, we are going to dig a little bit deeper about upturned eyes and look at some of the most famous people who have them.

It’s going to be an interesting read so you may want to keep going.

What are Upturned Eyes Like?

Upturned eyes are also known as “clear eyes”. They are not that common. These eyes have the upper eyelid fold in a different way, so they give off a different impression. To understand upturned eyes, you need to know the difference between normal and upturned eyes.

This type of eyelid folds goes all the way up to the eyebrow, while normal eyelids stop before they reach the eyebrow. Normal eyelids are thicker, heavy and droopy, whereas an upturned eye is thinner and lighter.

The upper lid of an upturned eye is not thick so it does not cover the white of the eye completely.

Upturned eyes can be slightly monolid or double-lidded. Because of this, it is more difficult for them to widen their eyes and make themselves more expressive during conversations.

Upturned eyes make people look younger than they actually are because their thinness give the impression of individuals who have not hit puberty.

It is no wonder then that some people with upturned eyes are mistaken for children when they have already reached adulthood.

How to Determine if you Have Upturned Eyes

Many people believe that having upturned eyes is a look that many women want but this is not always the case, as there can be some downsides associated with having upturned eyes.

If you have them, you will notice that they are different than regular eyes. They are more almond shaped and have a slanting shape to them.

To determine if your eyes are upturned, look closely in the mirror and draw an imaginary line from the corner of your nose to your pupil. If the line extends past the pupil, you have upturned eyes.

Are Upturned Eyes Attractive?

If you’ve ever wondered if upturned eyes are attractive, the answer is yes. But what exactly do we mean by upturned eyes? An upturned eye shape is when the upper lid is higher than the lower lid.

This can be seen in some of the most beautiful women in history, such as Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. So, while they may not be a conventional beauty trend, there are some definite advantages to having an upturned eye shape.

Tempting as it may be to get cosmetic surgery for this purpose, it’s important to remember that what you see on others does not necessarily translate well onto your own face.

In fact, if you really feel that your eyes are too small or too close together, then you should consider getting professional plastic surgery advice from a doctor who specializes in this type of procedure.

So why are upturned eyes so attractive? Well, let’s start with the obvious: They give the impression of larger and more open eyes.

This is especially true because people with downward-slanting eyes have less eyelid space above their eyes than those with upward-slanting eyes. The result is that those with downward-slanting eyes look as though they have smaller eyes than they actually do.

Large eyelids also contribute to making your eyes appear larger. Most cultures consider such eyes youthful and beautiful.

How Rare Are They?

While many women dream of having upturned eyes, they are actually quite rare. In fact, only 10% of the world’s population has them compared to 25% who have downturned eyes.

To get an idea of how rare they are, it’s helpful to understand what they look like. Upturned eyes sit at a 45-degree angle, making them appear more almond-shaped than the average eye.

They also tend to add a youthful appearance to the face because they make people look younger due to their size and shape. This is why they are often referred to as “bedroom” eyes.

Did you know that there is a term for someone with upturned eyes? It’s called “oriental” or “monolid.” While many people think of the orient as China, it actually refers to anyone who has this type of eye shape.

As you can imagine, these types of eyes are most common in Asian countries (like Japan).

This type of eye shape is not only found in humans, but also animals and even insects. In fact, some animals are bred for this type of look because it’s so attractive and desirable when it comes to selling pets.

Some dogs have this look too, which is why it’s referred to as a “puppy eyes”.

How Can I make my Eyes Less Upturned?

Many people have a problem with having upturned eyes. This problem is because of the shape of the face or any other reasons.

You can make you eyes appear less upturned by doing the following exercises.

1. Try to raise your eyebrows, but not just a little bit and not too much. Practice by looking in the mirror for some time.

2. This is one of the most effective exercises for correcting upturned eyes. Hold a pencil in between your eyebrows and look down at it from above.

Keep your neck straight and look straight at the pencil without moving your head. Do this exercise for as long as you can. Repeat regularly every day.

3. The next exercise can be done while looking in the mirror; hold both of your hands above your eyes and touch the top of your forehead with your fingers and press gently with your fingers so that you will feel some pressure on them.

This will help to reduce eye bags and pressurize the blood vessels which are located at that particular area so that they open up properly and appear less upturned.

Celebrities with Upturned Eyes

Upturned eyes are the ones that look like they’re always surprised. These eyes are very popular among celebrities. We combed through a lot of pictures of celebrities and found their most upturned eyes. Here is a list of some of the best candidates:

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie’s eyes are upturned. The actress says she does not like the look, but has no choice.

Tipping her head back to expose the area around her eyes, the actress explains: “See? My eyes are upturned. So, I have no choice.

The ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ star is happy with the rest of her face and thinks she looks normal. She adds: “I don’t have a problem with it because I think I look pretty normal.”

Angelina’s facial structure may be the result of a condition called Scheuermann’s disease, which causes the vertebrae in the neck to grow abnormally. It also causes curvature of the spine, which can become so severe that sufferers need surgery to correct it.

Kate Moss

Kate Moss has dark brown and perfectly upturned eyes. This is the most popular shape of eye because it looks best on almost everyone.

It is not angular and fits nicely with hairstyles and clothing.

If you are lucky enough to have this shape of eye, you will want to make sure you do not get eyelid surgery or a brow lift to make your eyes look smaller.

Keeping your face looking natural will help you pull off any look, whether it is makeup or no makeup at all and Kate does that effortlessly.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse’s eyeliner was always the focal point, and then she’d fill in her brows and use mascara, which created an upturned shape that gave her eyes a doll-like look.

“Using a brown pencil liner along the lash line will help create this same look,” says makeup artist Louie Ortiz, who works with Drew Barrymore. “You can also try using a brown cream shadow or even a liquid liner instead of pencil so that it won’t smudge as much.”

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung’s eyes are also upturned, hers are big and brown and they look like they’re smiling. Eyes that smile make you smile, which is why Alexa Chung’s eyes work so well on the cover of Vogue.

Tilting your eyes up at the corners makes them appear bigger – a trick that Chung has in common with many other models (and supermodels) before her. But the most important thing is that her eyes look happy.

And why wouldn’t they? She has featured on the cover of Vogue, after all.

Final Thoughts

Upturned eyes are considered more attractive because they make the eyes appear bigger and wider. Having even, upturned eyelids creates an optical illusion where the eyes appear larger than they actually are.

You realize that actors and other celebrities who have these eyes are considered good-looking so there is no need to worry if yours are the same.
